Johnston Construction Company

  • Johnston Construction Company served as Prime Contractor under a direct agreement with the Mayor and City Council of Ocean City.
  • JCC completed a comprehensive upgrade of the existing 2nd Street Wastewater Pumping Station, including structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, architectural, and site improvements.
  • The project addressed the station’s history of flooding by raising critical operating areas and equipment above the established flood elevation.
  • JCC demolished the existing pumping-station superstructure and modified the remaining foundation and wet-well structure to support the upgraded facility.
  • The company extended the existing foundation walls and constructed a new elevated floor slab with a finished-floor elevation of approximately 8.21 feet.
  • Johnston Construction Company completed the 2nd Street Wastewater Pumping Station Improvements project for the Town of Ocean City, Maryland.
  • The project included wastewater pumping station improvements, mechanical and electrical equipment, support systems, appurtenances, site work, structural improvements, and related miscellaneous work.
  • JCC’s scope included demolition, earthwork, excavation, trenching, backfilling, pavement restoration, outside piping, manholes, fencing, grading, seeding, structural concrete, precast concrete, metals, FRP doors, coatings, pumping equipment, odor control, hoists and cranes, mechanical systems, electrical systems, instrumentation, controls, bypass operations, startup, testing, and closeout.
  • Major equipment and systems included submersible chopper pumps, sump pumps, stainless steel slide gate, carbon adsorber system, hoists and cranes, pumping station bypass operations, heating and ventilation equipment, ductwork, packaged engine generator, automatic transfer switch, electrical distribution, lighting, instrumentation, and control system hardware.
  • The work required careful sequencing at an existing wastewater pumping station to maintain operations, protect existing utilities, coordinate bypass pumping, complete electrical and control integration, and return the station to service.
